Peekskill Celebration is an amazing weekend of family fun and activities for all ages, held on August 5-6, 2011 at Peekskill's Riverfront Green. This year, we're expanding our footprint to include Peekskill Landing on the north side of the park, which will allow us to offer hot air balloon rides! For 15 years, Peekskill Celebration has been delivering unrivaled fireworks, offering the most delicious array of festival foods, showcasing the brightest local talent, and racing the most colorful dragon boats in the Hudson Valley—all have become hallmarks of Celebration. Plus, we select over 100 vendors, community groups and artisans to sell their wares, promote their community involvement and display their craftsmanship, respectively. New this year, we are proud to re-brand our cancer awareness dragon boat race as the Drum Hill Senior Living Cancer Awareness Race. Now in its sixth year, this race along with its commemorative Rose Ceremony is the most moving part of the day. Nearly 100 paddlers raise their roses into the air and cast them upon the surface of the Hudson River in honor of those who have lost their battle to cancer and to celebrate the lives of those who beat the cancer dragon. No one should miss the ceremony. As the largest event in Peekskill—and for miles around—our festival showcases our vibrant maritime heritage, reinforces our sense of community, and adds to our quality of life. Celebration gives us an optimum excuse to meet our neighbors and relish in the city's rich diversity. The City of Peekskill is a partner in everything we do, from providing police and emergency services to logistical support. In addition, our major sponsors like Entergy, Wheelabrator, Drum Hill Senior Living, Plumbers, Steamfitters, and HVACR Union Local 21 and others, help to underwrite all of the free activities. So, whether you want to paddle in a dragon boat, advertise in our journal, volunteer at the information tent, or just gaze at the fireworks—you are welcome to join us.
